JOHN celebrate the release of their album ‘God Speed In The National Limit’ on the 18/10/17. Out on 12 inch vinyl/digitally via Pets Care Records. Come help wet the baby's head at The Old Blue Last, with Slay Low playing host to the following:
Taking the mundane spirit of their name as a manifesto, Crystal Palace based two piece JOHN (both members aptly named John) offer a deadpan approach that has become the recognisable force of their live shows, offering an almost mechanical solidity rare from only two bodies. Alongside the rhythmic synchronisation of guitar and drums, introspective lyrics suggest that literature and spoken word are just as important influences as the Punk, Noise and Rock genres they might comfortably fit into. This tight balance between content and volume has lead them on to stages with bands such Pulled Apart By Horses, USA Nails and Idles, as well gathering support from writer/actor Simon Pegg, John Kennedy (XFM) and BBC 6 Music.
“Having played with them in Bristol at the legendary though sadly defunct Stag & Hounds, we both vowed to find a way to get on a stage with them again. Their unique combination of surf, punk and noise had a smile on our faces within a couple of minutes. Not only do they offer a heck of a live show, the Derby-based trio have just recently released a double A side on the Too Pure Singles Club, and are also set to release their second album in the coming months - which we’re both very much looking to getting our grubby mitts on” - JOHN
“Noisy trio also based in the hellish city of London. We had the pleasure of sharing the sweaty triangle at the Brixton Windmill with them earlier this year and they blew our collective socks off. Fresh from releasing their new video/single ‘Lost + Bound’ (which like ‘God Speed In The National Limit’ was also recorded at Bear Bites Horse in East London) we’re very pleased that they’re joining the fold” - JOHN
Friday guys... album launch of friends Cassels at BIRTHDAYS in Dalston with other friends Youth Man doing their ting beforehand. We are going to have a little Turkish* food beforehand and bring as many friends as possible. You should do the same xxx
Cassels are a punk band. You can tell because they make punk music. They’re a two-piece who don’t sound like Slaves or Royal Blood and they’re brothers, but they don’t sound like Haim or The Cribs. They do sound very good though.
They’ve made a name for themselves writing spindly, socially-charged music and now they’re set to release their debut album. It’s called ‘Epithet‘, it’s out October 6th via Big Scary Monsters
