Funke and the Two Tone Baby at The Vicar’s Picnic 2017

It’s a quiet weekend for Dan Turnbull (AKA Funke and the Two Tone Baby, master of the loop) – he’s only got three festivals to play in 24 hours. Luckily he gets a nice cold drink when he gets home after a 500 mile jaunt around the green fields of England…

Funke and the Two Tone Baby

Tour debrief time.

I've been away for 17 days over 5 weeks.
Travelled from Newquay to Carlisle, Pontypool to Hull and all points in between.
Been back to towns and venues I've been playing for years to counties and venues I've never been near.
I've played in a cliff top marquee during Storm Brian, Devonian arts centres, legendary toilet circuit venues, music pubs, inappropriate clubs, rooms too small and rooms too big.
Every band, promoter, venue, sound, light, FOH, friends who have put me up, unsuspecting merch angels and all the drinks buyers have been amazing.

What's struck me most is the amount of people who've come to my shows, fans old and new, some on recommendations, some on reputation, some by chance, some on a punt, some people travelled hundreds of miles, but EVERYONE has danced and sung the night away, on every night, AND to a brand new, unheard and untested set!

I'm absolutely astounded by the response and I thank each and every one of you. I can't do it without you and it means the world to me that you'd choose to spend your evenings, time and money on me. I love you all.

Just for James fundraiser with Funke and the Two Tone Baby

Nov 25, 7:00pm

Pilton Church Hall
Barnstaple,   Map

“Just for James” is a one-off fundraising evening in aid of James (Jim) Cooper at Pilton Church Hall on 25th November 2017.

Fresh from a 17 date UK tour, Pilton and festival favourite Funke and the Two Tone Baby will be performing in his only North Devon appearance in 2017.

For those not familiar with Funke, he is a one man sonic explosion. Uncategorized and uncharted. Jammed halfway between frenzied alt-blues and metronomic dance beats. Combining guitar and harmonica with beatboxing and effects that seamlessly collide the organic with the mechanical to create a fresh sound of unstoppable rhythm and unrelenting melody.

Beyond the double microphones and trademark trilby is Dan Turnbull, a multi-instrumental battery spinning musical plates. A powerhouse to the ears and a blur to the eyes who smashes stage, festival and string after string whilst sweeping up audiences and dropping jaws from Boomtown Fair to Kendal Calling and Secret Garden Party to Convoi de Fete (NL).

Also performing are Laura Clayton, Angie Luxton and Siobhan Roissetter who are vocal harmony trio ‘3 Piece Sweet’ and DJ Carl Bramble Aka Gentleman Eclectic will be spinning some tunes. There may also be some additional support to be announced.

Tickets £10 from the Reform Inn, cash bar and raffle.

HEADLINER: FUNKE AND THE TWO TONE BABY

Funke and the Two Tone Baby is a one man sonic explosion.

A powerhouse to the ears and a blur to the eyes who smashes stage, festival and string after string whilst sweeping up audiences and dropping jaws from Boomtown Fair to Kendal Calling and Secret Garden Party to Convoi de Fete (NL).

Underpinning performances is ‘Balance’, released summer 2015 and heralded as ‘a masterpiece of an album’ by Louder Than War. Balance is a record that mixes musical mastery with an unhinged romp and a tour de force of powerful songwriting, heavy production and a ‘superb collection of musical vignettes’ (R2 Magazine). You’ll hear a full band before you see one man behind a wall of sound, so move your feet and dance off your face.

SUPPORT: JACK POUT

Jack Pout is a BBC Folk award nominated singer/songwriter from the fine city of Norwich, based in Brighton. Inspired by the revivalist musicians of the 60's and 70's, Jack's music carries nuances of numerous influences such as John Martyn, Duster Bennett, Bob Dylan and Chris Smither but with an individuality that makes his music inimitably his.
His honest and often deeply personal style of writing is married with a love for humour; live shows are known for their friendly and conversational style with audiences and feared for his love of puns.
2017 sees Jack playing shows across the U,K and Europe, playing and hosting stages at numerous festivals, and recording an album with a full band line up.

What are the camping arrangements going to be next year? Is there going to be a separate camping areas for families this time?

Nooooooo! It's a week later than previous years! I can't go 😭

Will there be any announcements on the lineup before then?

So pleased first of all that the festival is back after the great time we had last year!!! How about a bit of 80s electro The The Vicar's Picnic to get the crowd singing along to songs they'll know.Give these guys a shout-they'd get the crowd rocking!!! www.facebook.com/Synthony101/?ref=br_rs

Cast, Lightning Seeds, Shed Seven. Just got back from the Shiiine Festival and there have been some amazing bands over the past three years - Sheds definitely top of the list so far 😊

It's a bit early to know the line up people! Just be grateful it's on another year and whoever is playing it's gonna be good 😁
